At Hazelwood Integrated College in north Belfast teenagers from across the religious and political divide joined together to celebrate their exam success.
The Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) has published Northern Ireland GCSE examination performance figures on behalf of all the awarding bodies operating in Northern Ireland.

Figures show a rise in the percentage of entries achieving the top A* grade on last year, from 8.2per cent to 8.9per cent.

Grades A* to A show a 1.6per cent increase to 26.4per cent, and entries gaining grades A* to C has increased by 2.1per cent to 74.5 per cent.

While girls once again outperformed the boys, the gap is closing.
