PAUL Kirk will send his Lisburn Distillery side out with the aim of finding goals tonight.
The Co-Operative Insurance Cup quarter-final, first leg clash with Glenavon sees the Whites travel to Mourneview Park looking to reap some form of advantage to take back to Ballyskeagh for the return fixture on December 17.

With the away goals rule in operation, Kirk knows his players need to find the back of the net in tonight's showdown with the Lurgan Blues, and the Distillery chief is confident his potent strike force can produce the goods.

Curtis Allen has bagged eight goals already this season, with partner Darren Armour boasting five. The impressive tally has helped elevate the Whites to fourth in the JJB Sports Premiership.

"It is a two-legged affair, so the target is to get a goal or two away from home," Kirk said.

"I am not defensive minded, and Stephen McBride will know that we are not coming to Mourneview to play a 4-5-1 formation or anything like that. We will be going for it."

Glenavon boss McBride should look no further than Distillery's 4-1 triumph away to Bangor in the previous round of the competition.

A blistering first leg demolition of the Seasiders effectively ended the tie as a contest, with Kirk's men seeing out a 0-0 draw at Ballyskeagh in the return fixture.

"We went to Bangor with the objective of scoring goals. Well, I certainly think we achieved that," Kirk added.

"There haven't been too many games this season where we haven't scored, and in Darren Armour and Curtis Allen we have two players on top of their game."

Kirk insists the next step for the Whites is to finally lift some silverware, with this season's Co-Operative Insurance Cup a viable avenue for success this season.

"We are now recognised as a good team, and that's great because we have come so far. Teams now regard Lisburn Distillery as a decent scalp if they put one over us, and you should hear the away changing rooms when teams beat us. That speaks volumes for our progress," he added.

"But we need to take the next step, and that's actually winning a senior trophy. Cliftonville have won two County Antrim Shields, they have made the next step.

"We now have to try and do that, and with the various incentives of this year's Co-Operative, including the financial rewards and Setanta Cup qualification, then it is a big competition to go for."
