An official statement confirmed that the club had taken the decision to cancel the popular national event – traditionally held following the season-opening Cookstown 100 and before the international North West 200 – due to the 'current economic climate and circumstances beyond our control.'

The statement said: "Due to the current economic climate and circumstances beyond our control, the North Armagh Motorcycle and Car Club Ltd have, with regret, taken the decision to defer the Tandragee 100 national road race for one year.

"The club has every intention to the run the race again in 2011.
"The club would like to extend grateful thanks to our sponsors and landowners for their continued support."

The event had been scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 1.
The news comes two weeks after an inquest into the death of experienced Ardglass competitor John Donnan (42), who was killed at Tandragee in 2007.

Leading Irish racer Martin Finnegan also lost his life the following year after a high-speed crash in the 600cc Supersport race.
The Tandragee 100, one of the most eagerly anticipated events on the national road racing calendar, celebrated its 50th anniversary last year.
