JOE McAllister, Brian Campbell and defending champion Paul Rowan head the record field for the Spar Laganside 10K Challenge at the Ozone Centre, Ormeau Park tomorrow (Sunday).
The event organised by North Belfast Harriers has attracted a huge pre-entry and over 600 are expected to compete with both mens and women’s competitions likely to be very close.

Joe McAllister, the winner at the Waterside, Bangor and Armagh is th
e double Irish 10,000 metres champion and should have enough class to win on the fast course.

Brian Campbell has been Northern Ireland cross country champion for the last two seasons.

He retained his Larne half marathon crown in the spring and was also the winner of the Lisburn 10K. Paul Rowan has a tremendous record over the roads. The Willowfield athlete followed his Laganside victory last year with successes at Upper Malone, Banbridge, Jordanstown, Coleraine and for the fifth year in a row Craigavon.

Kevin Seaward, team mate of Joe McAllister at St Malachy’s, is a possible starter. He came second in the Bangor classic and third in the Titanic 10K.

Conor Flanagan the runner-up last year and the brilliant veterans champion Dave Morwood are in the North Belfast line-up along with Alan O’Hara, third at Cookstown.

They should have a great team battle with Willowfield who will have six times 10,000 metres winner Alan McCullough and Deane Fisher as well as Rowan and Campbell.
