WILLIAM Murphy will toast 11 "special" years with Linfield when he captains the Blues against a Rangers Legends Select side at Windsor Park on Saturday.
The man affectionately known as Winkie burst onto the scene after joining from Ards in September 1997, and has enjoyed over a decade of unparalleled success since his arrival at Windsor Park.
And Saturday's clash with the 'Legends' of Ibrox provides the perfect backdrop to the 34-year-old's big year at Linfield
Former Gers heroes including Graeme Roberts, David McPherson, Trevor Steven, Mark Walters and Mark Hately have made the trip to honour the Blues stalwart, with local stars and former Ibrox players Stephen Carson and Ryan McCann also included in the line-up.
"It is a fantastic way for me to celebrate my testimonial year, playing against a Rangers Legends side," Winkie (below) said.
"It's hard to believe that I have played so much of my career at a club like Linfield. It has been a very special part of my career and Saturday's game will be another fantastic memory for me.
"Hopefully the fans can come along and see some of the big names of the past and have a good day's entertainment. It should be a cracking afternoon."
