Antrim’s Mark Allen crashed out of the UK Championship at the quarter-final stage on Thursday night.
Allen suffered a 6-2 defeat to Ricky Walden after struggling to find any form at the Barbican Centre in York.
The Northern Ireland star claimed the opening frame but lost the next three to trail 3-1 at the mid-session interval.
Walden went on to win the fifth frame to stamp his authority on proceedings.
Allen rallied to win the next but World number 12 Walden claimed the next two frames to ease to victory.
English player Walden, who overcame Ding Junhui in the previous round, will play Mark Selby or Barry Hawkins in the semi-finals on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Ronnie O’Sullivan was dumped out of the UK Championship after a 6-4 quarter-final defeat to Stuart Bingham.
Bingham led 3-1 at the mid-session interval but the ‘Rocket’ got himself back in the game with two sparkling centuries.
But the world number 10 held his nerve to reverse his defeat in the recent Champion of Champions final in Coventry and advance to the last four.
O’Sullivan said: “I want to congratulate Stuart, he played a fantastic match and he’s had another brilliant tournament.”
