Christine McMahon placed eighth in her 400 metres semi final at the European Athletics Championships in Zurich but for the second time ran very close to her personal best.
She was drawn in lane 7 in by far the strongest semi including favourite Elidh Child. Christine fought hard but was tiring as they came into the straight and she came eighth in 57.31.
She would have needed to knock almost a second off her best to reach the final but has done really well in her first Europeans. Child won the semi with 54.71.
Waterford girl Kelly Proper was fifth in her 200 semi in 23.15.
