Neil Mulholland carried on where he left off in last week’s Commonwealth Games by roaring into the final of the NIBA singles Championship at Carrick in midweek.
The Lisnagarvey man, who picked up a silver medal in Glasgow in the triples discipline, brushed aside the challenge of Castle’s Matt Stevenson in the singles semi final and will now come up against Whitehead’s Nigel Beggs in next week’s decider.
Mulholland also has a date in the fours final to contemplate. The only consolation is the trophy is destined for Lisnagarvey as John McCloughlin, Gareth McCloughlin, Ivan Craig and Mulholland are due to face the team colleagues, Scott Jess, Martin Nelson, Philip Cromie and Noel Graham in the final.
And, Mulholland may not even be finished there as he tonight embarks on a pairs semi final. Joined by Ivan Craig, the Garvey boys are due to meet Thomas Carson and Matthew Crawford from Bangor.
His Commonwealth chum, Marty McHugh will feature in the other tie along with Barry Browne. The holders will line out against Lisnagarvey’s Jess and Martin.
Meanwhile, Belmont’s Mark McPeak tonight faces Andy Morrison of Ballymena in the final of the PGL singles at Fruithill Park.
