Wilton returns to the ring for the first time since he lost out to Charlie Edwards on the undercard of the Carl Frampton versus Scott Quigg event in Manchester last February.

“I have been out of action since the Edwards fight. I thought about retiring, but I had six months off.

“For six months I didn’t go near a boxing gym or watch boxing.

“Then I just thought about having one last crack at it and how I might live to regret it if I didn’t.

“I have got the buzz back for boxing so if all goes to plan on Saturday night I want another fight in May or June to shake the rust off. Then I will see what the options are in terms of big fights in the future.

“Hopefully people will see some boxing skills and movement this Saturday, he said.

“I hope to do the distance and get rid of all the cobwebs and get back at boxing.”

Luke’s brother Matthew will also fight on tonight’s bill along with Tony Nellins, Ryan Greene , Casey Blair and Ryan Peake.

Meanwhile Conrad Cummings’ fight at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff on March 11 has been postponed.

Cyclone Promotions pulled the plug after the withdrawal of the mandatory challenger to the British cruiserweight title Matthew Askin, and the subsequent withdrawal of replacement challenger Stephen Simmons.

Cummings was preparing for his rematch with Germany’s IBF Inter-Continental middleweight champion Ronny ‘ Mittag – the man he lost to back in November.

“I am absolutely gutted about the show being postponed,” Cummings said

“When you have been preparing for as long as I have, and when you are gearing up for a massive fight, it is hard to take.

“The only silver lining is that I believe there could be something in the pipeline for me in the next couple of weeks.”
