‘The Jackal’ will now have to vacate his IBF Super-bantamweight World title in order to face the unbeaten Santa Cruz.

Frampton - who went back into training camp on April 18 in London- says it is the fight that he has wanted.

“I’m excited that the fight has been made. It has been talked about for a few years now and it is great that the fight will take place in New York.

“This is the fight that I have wanted for a while now and I am just delighted that the deal has been done and we will be finally meet in the ring.”

Frampton believes that the fight will be a much more exciting encounter than the super-bantamweight unification fight against Scott Quigg in Manchester on February 27.

“Santa Cruz comes forward and throws loads of punches. He will come to fight and put on more of a show than Scott Quigg - who didn’t want to know for the first six rounds of our fight. Santa Cruz is tough.

“He is a three weight world champion but I am confident of winning the fight.”

Frampton expects thousands of the his fans to make the trip to the ‘Big Apple.’

“I will have as much support there as Santa Cruz. My fans are the best in the world and the support I get is out of this world.

“And I hope to pick up loads of support from Irish Americans on the east coast.

“This is the biggest fight of my career and this is the kind of fight that creates legacies,” he added.

The date and venue of the fight will be announced shortly.
