Frampton will travel to New York at the end of July to challenge Leo Santa Cruz for his WBA Featherweight title at the Barclays Center.

Victory for ‘The Jackal’ would make him a two weight world champion against an unbeaten Mexican - who is a three weight World champion.

It is a massive fight that could make Frampton a mega star on both sides of the pond and former IBF Flyweight World champion McAuley is convinced that Frampton will get the job done.

“I believe he will beat Santa Cruz. Carl is a special talent that only comes along once every 50 years.

“He can fight, he can box and he can bang. But he can think his way through a fight and that is what makes him special.

“He can also move up a gear when he has to. He has that something special to raise his game when it matters.

“Not many fighters can do that - and he also finds a way to win a fight. He can raise his game, so that he is a always better than his opponent. He is a special fighter, who was born with a natural talent,” he added.

McAuley is sure Frampton has a ‘granite chin’ that Santa Cruz will find hard to break down.

He said; “He was put down twice in the first round in El Paso by Alejandro Gonzalez Jr, but he was just caught cold.

“In that fight he was hit harder in the later rounds and just absorbed the shots.

“Against Chris Avalos and Scott Quigg - who can both bang - he took some shots and they had little effect.

“Those knock downs in El Paso mean nothing. Carl has a good chin and Santa Cruz will be surprised by that and by how hard he hits.

“Frampton hits very hard,” he added.
