Conrad Cummings ready to hand out a lesson in Cardiff

Conrad Cummings says he has learned his lesson after drawing with Alfredo Meli at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast last year.

Cummings went into that fight as the up and coming star of Cyclone Promotions but after spluttering to a draw against Meli in their Celtic title showdown - Cummings believes he has matured as a fighter after that performance.

“I learned a lot from the fight with Meli at the Waterfront Hall. I made it hard for myself because of inexperience.

“I know now that I can’t switch off for a minute, I need to stick to my boxing and not just look for one big knockout punch.

“I had him down in the first round and then I went gunning for him and forgot about my boxing. I will not do that again.”

Cummings bounced back from that draw with Meli with a points win on the undercard of Carl Frampton’s IBF and WBA World title fight against Scott Quigg in Manchester at the end of February,

He will now fight Frankie Borg in Cardiff on Saturday night before heading to fight in New York on July 30.

“I’m at my best when I stay busy so it’s great to be boxing again in Cardiff and I am looking forward to it,” he said.

“Borg’s a really tough guy, he holds a win over former European champion Kerry Hope so it’s going to be a good fight for me.

“I have been working very hard in the gym and you learn do much training beside the likes of Carl Frampton and George Groves.

“I want to show my true potential and I know that I belong up with the best in Britain and it’s just a matter of proving it in these next few fights,” he added.
