Former World champion Bernard Dunne expects close fight between Carl Frampton and Scott Quigg

And Dunne – who won his World title against Ricardo Cordoba in 2009 – says he is concerned that Tigers Bay fighter Frampton may be struggling to make the super-bantamweight weight limit.

“With Carl, is he struggling with weight or is he not struggling with weight?

“Was he just using that as an excuse after the Alejandro Gonzalez Jr fight for why he got dropped?

“If he is struggling with weight, is that going to affect his levels of endurance coming into the fight? There is so much at stake and so much in play and it’s so hard to call,” added Dunne

And Dunne says Bury fighter Quigg must bide his time if he is get the job done against Frampton at the Manchester Arena.

“Scott is going to have to be solid, walk forward and Frampton will box and move.

“I think Scott has to be patient though and accept he’s probably going to lose the early rounds.

“He can’t get frustrated by it and jump in, because then Carl will catch him.

“When he gets an opportunity, Scott really has to take it by hurting Carl down low, slowing him down and bringing him into the latter stages. Let’s see if Carl can last the pace.”

And Dunne is a big fan of Frampton and he says he will be glued to his television in Dublin tomorrow night to see the encounter.

“I’ll be in Dublin watching and cheering on Carl. He’s someone I admire. I know what sort of sacrifices you have to make, leaving your family and being 100 per cent focused.

“It’s a short window you get to work in and he’s done himself proud.

“Living in Barry McGuigan’s shadow can be difficult at times but Carl has managed it really well. He’s a hell of a boxer. He can fight when he needs to but he’s a hell of a boxer with a great brain on him.”

And Dunne believes tomorrow’s fight could be a classic contest between two guys at the peak of their ability.

“There have been some fantastic fights in this weight division. I was lucky enough to win a world title on Irish soil. Now Carl is coming over here to Scott’s home ground. You can’t ask for any more.

“There are two very different styles. Carl moves well in the ring, boxes and picks his shots and combinations. He’s got such variety.

“Scott is more rigid, tight and compact and looks to wear guys down. It makes for a hell of a night.

“It should be a great fight and both guys bring so much to the table.

“They are both talented and can both bang. It will be exciting.”
