Jamie Conlan ready to claim Commonwealth title in London on April 30

Super- flyweight Jamie Conlan is ready to deliver when he faces Anthony Nelson for the Commonwealth title at the Copper Box in London on April 30.

Conlan will face Nelson on the undercard of Billy Joe Saunders first WBO world title defence against Max Bursak.

Belfast boy Conlan is unbeaten as a professional and he is looking forward to facing Nelson.

“Our styles are going to make for a cracking fight for the fans in the stadium and on nthe television.

“He is a fighter who likes to come forward and throw punches and everyone knows I’m one of the most exciting fighters in the division so it’s bound to be a cracker while the two of us are still standing.

“Fans can expect a war between the two of us on the night between us but I don’t see it going the distance.

“After moving to the MGM gym in Spain I believe I’m hitting harder and I’m bigger and stronger than I’ve ever been. I’m looking forward to this one.” he added.

And Conlan says the belt that he is fighting for in London is one he has always wanted.

“The Commonwealth belt seems to propel fighters onto bigger things as we’ve seen with Saunders.

“It’s a prestigious belt and another step on the road towards a world title.

“Everything is moving steadily in the right direction. Each fight is another step up the ladder and a box ticked on my journey towards a world title.

“There are big fights out there for me - but I know I have to keep winning at this stage of my career.”

And Jamie - the brother of Olympian Michael - says preperation is going very well.”

“We’re out in Marbella at the minute and we’re deep into the training camp.

“I’m loving everything, the weather is ideal and the training is brilliant. I’m eating, sleeping and thinking about boxing the whole time. All I do is concentrate on this fight.”
