And McCarthy says he will deliver under the spotlight of the Sky Sports camera.

“I have been to sparring camps in England and Europe and I have got fantastic feedback from all of those spars.

People are talking about me and the ability I have, but it is alright them talking. It is up to me to prove that the rumours are true by winning in Glasgow on Saturday night,” he added.

And McCarthy says he has gained inspiration from the success of fellow Belfast boxers Carl Frampton, Paddy Barnes and Michael Conlan.

“I know these guys and Paddy and Michael are good friends of mine. They have shown all of us what is possible if we work hard.

“I was out running with Michael the other day and I see how hard they all work to get where they are.

“Carl is another example of a guy who has done very well. He was a unified World champion and he is fighting in New York at the end of July to become a two weight World champion.

“They are an inspiration to the rest of us and gives us great belief because if they can do it, then so can the rest of us. They have given us confidence,” said McCarthy.

But McCarthy knows that Frampton, Barnes and Conlan will not be in the ring with him when he faces Dickinson.

“He is a good fighter and he has had a successful career. He is a Lonsdale belt holder and he won Prizefighter.

“Dickinson is a tough lad but I just believe I am better but it is up to me to deliver.

“If I win this fight it will open up doors to title fights and that is what I want as I have been a professional now for two years.”

Meanwhile Ricky Burns will make his fighting return to Glasgow on Saturday night but insists he does need to make up for his past disappointments on home soil.

He takes on Italian Michele Di Rocco as he bids to become Scotland’s first ever three-weight world champion.

“I’ve been on the road for the last couple of years fighting down in England a lot and over in Texas as well.

“But it’s always good to come home. It’s two years since I’ve fought in Glasgow and tickets are selling well.”
