Carl Frampton is ready to challenge for IBF World title

WORLD TITLE AMBITIONS: Carl Frampton after winning the European title

WORLD TITLE AMBITIONS: Carl Frampton after winning the European title

Carl Frampton would love to fight IBF World champion Jonathan Romero in his next outing.

Columbian Romero claimed the vacant IBF title by beating Alejandro Lopez on points on Saturday night.

And Frampton - who won the European title on February 9 by stopping Kiko Martinez at the Odyssey - says meeting Romero in his next fight would not be a problem.

“I would fight for a World title in my next outing, and if that is against Romero, then that’s fine.

“But if it’s a IBF World title eliminator then that is also fine. I did not see the Romreo winning the fight against Lopez, but it is a fight I would take,” he added.

And what about fighting for the World title in Belfast?

“I would love to do that, but he is the champion and it would take loads of money to get him to fight for his World title in Belfast.

“But I would love to fight for and win a World title in Belfast. That would be fantastic,

“It would also be great to defend my title here a few times and then head to America, as that is something I have always wanted to do,” he added.

And when does ‘The Jackal’ see himself returning to the ring?

“May 11 was mentioned but that would be a bit too soon. I had a tough training camp and a tough fight against Kiko, so I need a rest.

“I would say I will be out again in June,” added Frampton.
