Carl Frampton ‘will have edge over Kiko Martinez’

Shane McGuigan believes Carl Frampton will have Kiko Martinez’s number if the two meet in the ring.

Talks about a European title fight and World title eliminator between the two are at an advanced stage and a clash at the Odyssey Arena in February is on the cards.

Martinez has pulled out of fighting Frampton on two previous occasions and McGuigan believes anything could happen this time

“First of all, hopefully Kiko shows up. I know if he does show up he is going to get beaten and beaten badly. But he might not turn up at all,” McGuigan said.

“He has proved to us on two seperate occasions that he does not want the fight.

“So when he does turn up, he will be defeated before he gets into the ring. That is my opinion.”

McGuigan believes ‘The Jackal’ will have too much in his locker for the Spanish European champion.

“He has power in his right hand, but he is predictable and when Carl has another training camp with us, he will be better and stronger than he has ever been before,” he added.

“We believed Carl would beat him a year and a half ago – that is when we were supposed to fight him the first time.

“Carl will definitely beat him this time. He will probably stop him and he will look impressive doing it.

“But that is if Kiko turns up. The more confident he is the better, because he will then walk onto Carl’s shots.”
