Michael Conlan eased to within one win of claiming at least a bronze medal at the AIBA World Elite Men’s Championships following an emphatic victory in Kazakhstan on Monday.
The Belfast fighter recorded a shut out unanimous decision (30-27,30-27,30-27) victory over Mexico’s Brian Gonzalez.
Conlan, the No.2 seed, will now meet Russia’s No.10 seed Vladimir Nikitin in the last-eight on Wednesday.
And Tommy McCarthy overcame Germany’s Emir Ahmatovic.
