Former World Champion Dave ‘Boy’ McAuley has urged Carl Frampton to ‘strike while the iron is hot’ before his IBF World title eliminator at the Odyssey on October 19.
Undefeated fighter Frampton faces Jeremy Parodi at the Belfast venue and McAuley believes Frampton is ready to start his assault on a World title.
“Carl and his people should pay whatever it takes to get a shot at the IBF World champion Kiko Martinez.
“Frampton is in a different class from Kiko and if he fought the Spaniard again, he would take him out again, like he did in February. Kiko has to defend his belt against Jeffrey Mathebula next - but if I was in Frampton’s camp I would hope Kiko wins and then offer him whatever he wants to fight Frampton.
“It does not matter if Carl fights Kiko in Belfast, America or Spain - he beats him every time, but they have got to strike now, while the iron is hot. I would even speak to Kiko and Mathebula’s camps now and get it sorted, ” he added.
And McAuley also added that Frampton is creating a great buzz for boxing in Belfast.
“The Odyssey is heading towards a sell-out and the atmosphere will be electric.
“Parodi will be coming to win, but Carl will win the fight - and then get that World title shot,” he added.
