Eamonn Magee predicts successful ring return for former rival Ricky Hatton

WARRIOR: Ricky Hatton

WARRIOR: Ricky Hatton

  • by Nicky Fullerton

Eamonn Magee is one hundred per cent behind Ricky Hatton’s return to the ring on Saturday night.

‘The Hitman’ will make his comeback against Vyacheslav Senchenko in Manchester after a three-year absence from the sport.

Hatton and Magee crossed swords in 2002 with Hatton winning on points after being put to the canvas by ‘The Terminator’ in the opening stanza.

And Magee says he always thought his old rival would make a ring return.

“I am not surprised, and to be honest I thought he would have been back before now.

“He has been out of the ring for three years but it was a bad knockout in his last fight against Manny Pacquiao. And it takes a wee while to get over a defeat like that.

“He has taken his time and I am sure he has talked it over with his family, and I for one am delighted he is back.

“And I have two tickets for the fight,” he added.

And Magee – the former Irish, Commonwealth and WBU World Champion – says Hatton is far from finished.

“Ricky still has a lot to offer the sport. He sold-out the MEN Arena in Manchester in 48 hours which shows how popular he is.

“And I believe he will take this guy apart on Saturday night.

“He was a very good fighter and he was a four-time World champion at two different weights. Ricky will be coming back looking to get back to the very top and I believe he can do that.”
