Two former World Champions have heaped praise on Carl Frampton before his fight at the Odyssey on Saturday night.

Frampton - unbeaten in his 16 fights to date - faces France’s Jeremy Parodi at the packed Belfast venue in a IBF World title eliminator.

And former World champions Steve Collins and Dave ‘Boy’ McAuley both believe ‘The Jackal’ has the tools to go the whole way to the top of the Super-bantamweight division.

Collins - the former WBO middleweight and super-middleweight champion - is a big fan of the Tigers Bay puncher and has high hopes for Frampton.

“He is far more talented than I was. He will become a World champion and he will be around for a long time. He says he likes to chill out the week of the fight and see and speak to family and friends. He can do that because he is a very good boxer.

“Aggression was my main weapon and I had to lock myself away the week of the fight - but he is more talented than I was and he doesn’t have to lock himself away the week of the fight,” added Collins.

“I have been very impressed with Carl and I believe he will go far and be around for a long time. He is a very talented boy.”

Former IBF Flyweight champ McAuley also shares Collins’ view on Frampton.

“There is a buzz about Belfast and it reminds me of the times Barry McGuigan and myself were in our prime. He is a talented boy and he can do just about everything,” he said.

“He can box, he can fight, he can bang and he proved against Kiko Martinez that he can take a shot. But the thing I like must about him, is that he can think his way through a fight.

“He is very adaptable and he can lots of different things.

“Against Raul Hirales a few fights ago he fought on the back foot and he did it very well. The main thing now is striking while the iron is hot and get him that World title shot,” he added.

“And he also proved against Kiko that he has real KO power. That is a great gift to have.”
