FRAMPTON IS ON BRINK OF GLORY

DETERMINED: Carl Frampton

DETERMINED: Carl Frampton

CARL Frampton will take to the ring in the Odyssey Arena on Saturday night on the brink of something special.

The Tigers Bay Super bantamweight puts his Commonwealth and IBF Inter Continental titles on the line against Steve Molitor.

Frampton is closing in on a World title assault but first of all has to see off two-time World Champion Molitor.

A big crowd is expected at the Belfast venue and Frampton can’t wait to walk into the packed arena.

“It is going to be great and I am looking forward to it. And if there are any sticky moments in the fight it will be a big factor in my favour. This is the biggest night of boxing in Belfast for over a decade,” he said.

“It is a fantastic card and for me to be topping the bill is an honour and a privilege. I think it is going to get noisy in there and I can’t wait. Being the top of the bill brings pressure and when you look at the guys who are on the bill – it really is an honour to be the main event.

“But there is pressure to perform well and look good. This will be shown live in America and it is a big deal and it is giving me a massive platform to show what I can do.”

Molitor has arrived in Belfast full of confidence and has stated that Frampton will be out of his depth when the two meet.

“He can say that and he is coming here to win but I have trained very hard for this fight,” Frampton countered.

“I have spent a long time away from my family and my daughter is at an age now that she is aware when I am away and she gets sad. I have had to leave my family because of this guy and I am going to take it out on him.

“I am going to knock this guy out, no doubt about it.”

And Frampton says he has not underestimated Molitor in any way.

“He is tricky, he is World class. He has been a World champion on two occasions. Molitor is a proven operator, he really is,” he added.

“And anyone who knows anything about boxing will know that this is a tougher fight than the one against Kiko Martinez.

“Maybe he’s not as big a puncher, but he is definitely a better boxer.

“I am used to fighting southpaws and I have fought against every style in the world. Molitor will not have anything that I have not seen before.

“I have been sparring with southpaws and the padwork is all about getting things sorted out that we believe will work against southpaws and Steve Molitor. But I always train and graft very hard and my training has not changed to much.”

Tickets are on sale from the Odyssey Arena box office on 028 9073 9074 and at www.odysseyarena.com
