Jamie Conlan has been earmarked as one to watch for a number of years now.
Injuries and illness have hampered his development, but now the former St John Bosco amateur is ready to make a statement by fighting Hassan Azaouagh for the WBO European title at the Odyssey on October 19.
Azaouagh has an impressive KO record but Conlan – who can bang himself – insists this is the test he has been looking for.
“This guy is dangerous, so I will have to concentrate and keep my focus for the whole fight.
“I can’t afford to have a lapse in concentration because this guy is dangerous and he can bang.
“His KOs are one punch knock-outs so he can hit but I am excited and cannot wait to get going. This fight should test me and that’s what I want,” he added.
Also on the bill Eamonn O’Kane will fight Kerry Hope for the Celtic Middleweight title.
O’Kane is on the crest of a wave after winning the Irish title in his last outing and he is looking forward to facing the former European champion.
“I am expecting the best Kerry Hope and I have trained accordingly. I feel I am stronger, faster, a better boxer. I have the tools in my locker to beat him but I have to be ready.”
