Martin Lindsay - the forgotten man on the domestic featherweight scene - has been handed a golden opportunity to get himself back in the title mix.

The former Immaculata amateur faces Krzysztof Rogowski in a six rounder in London on Friday night and if he comes through that Lindsay will then tackle Josh Warrington for the Commonwealth title in Leeds on May 21.

Lindsay was last seen in action last year when he lost ina brave bid to take the British and Commonwealth belts off Lee Selby on the undercard of Carl Frampton’s successful bid for Kiko Martinez’s European title at the Belfast venue.

At the age of 31. many had thought that Lindsay would not get another shot at a title - due to his inactivity.

Warrington has won all of his 17 fights to date -with two coming by way of knock-out and in his last outing he stopped former World title challenger Rendall Munroe in seven rounds.

Lindsay says this is the kind of opportunity he has been looking for and that the British title may also be on the line against Warrington?

“I am in a six rounder in London and if that goes well it’s on to Leeds to face Warrington.

“In his last fight he beat Munroe. I watched a bit of it and he throws lots of punches, is young and fit. He looks a decent fighter - but this is an opportunity I could not turn down.

“Hopefully the British title will also be on the line that night. Champion Lee Selby fights in a World title eliminator the week before I face Warrtington, so fingers cross the British and Commonwealth titles will be up for grabs,” he added.

And Lindsay says preparation has been going well.

“I have been training for six to seven weeks for the fight in London and then after that I have another five weeks to get ready for Warrington.

“Training has been going well.

“These opportunites come alone every so often and you have to take them. I am not getting any younger so I am really up for this one.”
