Matthew Wilton will take to the ring tomorrow night at the Holiday Inn in Belfast looking to make a statement as he starts his campaign for 2014.
Wilton will face Lewie O’Mara on dad Alio’s small hall show and the light welterweight says he wants to hit the ground running.
“Yes this is my first fight of 2014 and I want to win the fight and look impressive doing it.
“I had four fights in 2013 and I am looking to remain unbeaten this year and move up the rankings.
“I am in no rush and I am learning my trade. It is great to get my first fight of 2014 and I cannot wait to get started,” he added.
Matthew - brother of British title challenger Luke - says working with experienced trainer Bernardo Checa is improving his game.
“We are working on a few things with me and he has improved me as fighter. He has improved me head movement and I am now also counter-punching.
“I am enjoying it and have been sparring with Eamonn O’Kane and Alec Bazza in the build up to this fight and I am in great shape.
“O’Mara is a southpaw but I will be ready for whatever he brings on the night,” he added,
Wilton will be joined on the bill by Alfredo Meli who takes on Festim Lama, the impressive Paul Quinn fights Joe Beedon, Mark Morris faces Ryan Corrigan, Bazza tackles Anthony Upton and Casey Blair makes his debut.
