New champion Magee targets clash with Andre Ward

NEW CHAMPION: Brian Magee

NEW CHAMPION: Brian Magee

IT is official – Brian Magee is the new WBA super middleweight champion of the world.

Magee will now defend his title against Mikkell Kessler in Denmark on December 8 as world champion.

The Lisburn southpaw had been the reigning interim WBA World king but now has been upgraded by the organisation.

Magee now knows that if he beats Kessler in Denmark a mega fight against undisputed Andre Ward is on the cards.

And Magee knows he has to produce the fight of his life against Kessler.

“It is great for my legacy to be the WBA world champion. I am delighted with the fact that when I face Kessler I will be the World champion. And if I win this fight Ward could be next up. These are exciting times,” he said.

“But I have to beat Kessler and I believe I can do that.”

And his manager Pat Magee is delighted the WBA have upgraded his fighter.

“When he beats Kessler, he is the mandatory challenger to Ward,” Magee added.

“Brian is in to the driving seat and when he beats Kessler, we have big fights on the horizon.”
