Paul McCloskey looks set to fight IBO welterweight World champion Chris van Heerden in Belfast at the Odyssey Arena in September.
And Dungiven southpaw McCloskey and South African van Heerden exchanged words on Twitter on Wednesday night about clashing at the Belfast venue.
On Twitter van Heerden stated: ‘Lets just say I’m going to give you a beating in front of 10 000 passionate fans,’
To which McCloskey replied: ‘Lets just say I’ve beaten alot better boxer’s and bigger punchers than you chump,so keep fuelling my fire and I’ll send u home with your tail between your legs.’
And McCloskey’s manager Francie McNicholl says a deal is as good as done.
“We are still trying to put all the bits in place but we want the fight and they want the fight and in fact they made contact with us.
“The money has been agreed and we are looking at the Odyssey in September.
“We are waiting on Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn to give us the green light for television coverage - but we want the fight at the Odyssey in September.
“Paul has not fought since September 2012 but he will be ready for the challenge of van Heerden.
“He is also a southpaw - who is big for the division - and he beat Matthew Hatton in his last outing - but Paul wants this fight.
“It is a great opportunity for Paul and we are very confident he will get the job done,” he added.
