Former World Champion Ricky Hatton liked what he saw at the Odyssey on Saturday night.

‘The Hitman’ looked on with admiration as he watched Carl Frampton stop Jeremy Parodi in front of a packed house in their IBF World title eliminator at the Belfast venue.

Hatton had been there keeping a watchful eye on his young charge Ryan Burnett wining on his first outing at the Belfast venue - but he hung around to give his expert opinion for Boxnation on the Frampton v Parodi clash.

The Manchester fighter was a former WBA (Super), IBF, IBO and The Ring Light Welterweight Champion of the World and was also the WBA Welterweight Champion.

He fought the likes of Floyd Mayweather Jnr and Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas, so when it comes to spotting talent he knows what he is talking about.

And Hatton - who witnessed Frampton taking Parodi apart - sees no reason why the Tigers Bay Super-bantamweight - cannot go the whole way to a World title.

“He is a World Champion in waiting for me. That was a great performance against Parodi and he won the fight hands down. Parodi is a good European fighter - but Frampton is World class and he proved it again.

“Carl will most definitely become a world champion. He’s getting better all the time and it’s there for the taking. The sooner he gets a world title the better.”

And Hatton says Frampton is only going to get better and better in the coming months.

“Carl is looking better and better with every fight. He looks very big for the weight and he is very strong. He is also improving all the time.

“I see much of myself in the sense that he’s not scared of fighting anyone. He has called out WBA champion Scott Quigg, he’s already beaten Kiko Martinez, who is a current world champion.

“He was excellent against Parodi and proved that he is World class. And the atmosphere in the Odyssey was out of this world,” he added
