BOXING: Magee ready to down the Great Dane

BRIAN Magee will walk into the 'Lion's Den' on Saturday night as he faces Mads Larsen in Denmark for the European super middleweight title.

The Belfast boxer who has a record of 32 wins from 36 fights faces the experienced Larsen in his own backyard.

The Dane has won an impressive 51 of his 53 fights to date and Magee, who flew out to Denmark yesterday, knows he will have to be at his best of he is to become European Champion.

"He has got loads of experience and he has got a good record, but I have fought quite a few fights myself and I am hardly a rookie.

"We are both tried and tested fighters and the two of us have been inactive for a while, so it will be interesting. I believe it is a real 50/50 fight.

"He has been around a while and is a hero in Denmark, so I know the crowd will be behind him. But I have always been the underdog in my fights, so that does not worry me.

"Even when I was the IBO World Champion, I was the underdog, so this is nothing new. Even though I am fighting in Denmark I am used to fighting abroad and that does not worry me.

"I have had a few dodgy judges decisions when I fought abroad in the past, but I can't do anything about that.

"I will just go out and fight my fight and make sure I am a clear winner. If I can take him out then even better," added Magee.

The southpaw is also pleased with the way his training camp has gone.

"I feel good and the training has gone very well. I know I am in for a hard night's work, but I have put the work in at the gym and I am ready for the fight.

"It is my first fight in a year and I cannot wait to get started. Sparring has gone well and it's all systems go for Saturday night.

"I know that the prospects of bigger fights after this one are there, but I am totally focused on Larsen.

"Both of us will be up for this fight as we both know it will lead to bigger and better fights in the future,"said Magee.
