Graeme McDowell produced another wonderful fight back to see off Hunter Mahan on the 21st and book his place in the quarter-finals of the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship.
McDowell reached the third round at Dove Mountain thanks to superb fightbacks against Gary Woodland and Hideki Matsuyama. Last night the 2010 US Open champion found himself two down with two to play but somehow clawed his way back into the match, winning 17 with a par and 18 with a birdie.
He looked odds on to go lose on the second extra hole but rolled in a 20 foot putt for a half, before wrapping up victory with birdie on the last.
“It’s entertaining but I would much rather have it easy. I can’t believe it, I’ve just robbed three players to be honest,” said McDowell who will play Victor Dubuisson today.
