‘Carl Frampton’s class and popularity will bring world title fight to Belfast’ says Eddie Hearn

Carl Frampton looks set to fight for a World title in Belfast.

The Tigers Bay fighter claimed the European Super-bantamweight title after stopping Kiko Martinez at the Odyssey on Saturday night.

And Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn believes a World title fight is on the cards.

“He’s blessed to be in a lower weight division with a huge backing and huge following in Belfast, so that’s a great position to be in for Carl,” Hearn said.

“It means you can bring people over for the right money. That’s going to make sense where you can give Carl a huge pay day and give the world champion a payday.”

A shot at the vacant WBC title or the winner of next week’s IBF super bantamweight world title fight between Jonathan Romero and Alejandro Romero could happen.

However, it seems the promoter’s preferred option would be an IBF eliminator in Belfast on May 11.

“Luckily Sky TV came to me yesterday and said we’d like a show here on May 11 and I rang the venue straight away and luckily it’s available,” Hearn added.
