Matthew Robinson had rich consolation after the disappointment of losing out at the Ulster junior championship at the Boat Club the previous week when he lifted the U-18 title at the Co Armagh Championship at the weekend.
The Ballymena player took the title after the event was staged on a round robin basis with a decisive 6-4, 6-1 win over Jonny Evans to finish his campaign unbeaten.
Emma Coalter lifted the corresponding girls trophy after a 6-2 6-4 win over Sophie Hunter and she also won the U-16 category
Rachel McCrum took the honours at U-14 level with a decisive 6-2, 6-0 win over Donegal visitor Kathy Bannigan while the boys event was won by Caleb Ralstown who beat Rory Cunningham 6-2, 7-5.
Rory had some consolation when he partnered ben Laverty to a 6-3, 6-0 win over ben Doherty and jack Hudson in the U-14 boys doubles decider.
Jack had earlier defeated Alex Armstrong 6-3, 7-6 in the U-12 singles final which turned out to be the closest match of the day.
“The standard of tennis was high throughout the week although, ideally, we would have liked a bigger entry.” said Tournament Referee Lyn Jameson.
“We are grateful to our sponsors Ulster Carpets and Zio restaurant in Portadown for their support and we are already looking forward to next year.”
