Coleman boys up for the challenge

ON TARGET: Stephen Coleman

ON TARGET: Stephen Coleman

THE Coleman brothers – Stephen and Rod – both have an added incentive ahead of Saturday’s World Bowls singles qualifier at the Baker Stadium.

Stephen will be focused on claiming his place in a second World Bowls Tour event, while Rod will want to erase the memory of last season’s PBA play-off defeat by Belfast’s Simon Martin.

Both go into action tomorrow morning on their home carpet. Stephen ended last season’s indoor campaign on a high by booking a spot in the Welsh Grand Prix, courtesy of winning the PBA play-off at the Watson Stadium.

He is due to appear at Llanelli early in the New Year.

Rod, however, was deprived of a spot on the famous blue portable rink at Potters Leisure Resort following that one shot loss to Martin.

“It could have gone either way,” he recalls. “I lost the opening set by one shot and then missed out on a ‘full house’ (a count of four) to win the second, which finished 7-7.

“It’s always a difficult event to win, so it was frustrating to make the final and not get over the finishing line.”
