It was loud and colourful – and that was only Peter Wright’s hair and attire as over 7,000 fans packed the Odyssey for week three of the Premier League darts.
There were plenty of Wright wigs in the crowd in multiple colours but no-one expected ‘Snakebite’ to turn up looking a cross between a pint of Guinness and a cow.
Although Wright was dressed in black and white, his darts lit up the stage as he recorded his first win over Phil Taylor in 10 attempts with a 7-4 triumph.
“I’m delighted,” he beamed.
“We’re not worried if Phil is not playing his game, and we’ve got to take advantage of it because he won’t feel sorry for us if we go through bad patches.”
The Michael van Gerwen fans were out in force with plenty of green shirts and bald wigs, and the crowd didn’t have long to wait as the world champion was second on stage.
Even when the PA system went down during van Gerwen’s walk-on you wouldn’t have known as the crowd belted out a deafening rendition of Seven Nation Army.
The defending champion didn’t disappoint as he averaged 103.60 in a 7-4 victory over Dave Chisnall to make it three wins out of three to go top of the table.
Also on the night Robert Thornton beat Gary Anderson, Wes Newton defeated Adrian Lewis and Raymond van Barneveld wrapped the night up with victory over Simon Whitlock.
