Marco Canola won stage 13 of the Giro d’Italia as the day’s three-man breakaway managed to hold off the charging peloton in Rivarolo Canavese.
Canola (Bardiani CSF) beat fellow escapees Jackson Rodriguez (Androni Giocattoli) and Angelo Tulik (Team Europcar) as the sprinters’ teams misjudged their finish and were unable to reel in the trio.
Nacer Bouhanni (FDJ.fr) led the peloton in 11 seconds behind in fourth.
The general classification standings were unchanged as Rigoberto Uran (Omega Pharma-QuickStep) retained the maglia rosa he seized from Cadel Evans (BMC Racing) on Thursday.
Evans is 37 seconds behind the Colombian ahead of Saturday’s mountainous 14th stage from Aglie to Oropa (Biella) in north western Italy.
