Irish passport holder Nathan Smith, who plays for Central Districts in Sydney, arrives in Belfast next week and will be Instonians’ second non-resident player alongside South African all-rounder Juan Theron.

Instonians captain Nikolai Smith said: “We are very excited that Nathan Smith has decided to join us for the upcoming season. He met some of the guys last season and took the opportunity to take part in some of the practise sessions.

“He holds a lot of promise and we are expecting great things from Nathan both on and off the cricket field. I’m sure he will fit in very well with all of the guys and we look forward to having him in Belfast this summer.”

Nathan Smith is a relative of young Instonians player Matthew Lightbody and spent some time in Northern Ireland last summer.

Inst’s hopes this season have already been boosted with news that former captain Neil Russell will be playing for the club this summer despite interest from North Down.

Zach Rushe, the left-arm spinner, has left for CIYMS but Robert McKinley, formerly of Ballymena, is another new arrival.
