Muckamore have shown they mean business on their return to the NCU Premier League with the signing of one of the best fast bowlers in the North West.

Jarred Barnes, the towering South African-born seamer, has joined the newly-promoted Moylena club from Coleraine.

Muckamore captain Neil Gill told the News Letter that they were delighted that Barnes had joined and that they are hoping to clinch another new arrival.

“We are over the moon,” he said. “Along with Ryan Haire, Avadhoot Dandekar and hopefully one other I would be confident of cementing our place in the Premier League.”

Muckamore’s last Premier League campaign was undermined on the eve of the season when the recruitment of a professional went wrong, but the building blocks are in place early this time.

Barnes, who is moving to the NCU area, burst onto the scene in 2013 when he played an instrumental role in Coleraine’s first-ever North West Premier League triumph. They also won the Ulster Cup that season following an impressive victory over Waringstown at The Lawn, when Barnes was almost unplayable.

Coleraine have secured the signing of Stephen Dunn, the much-travelled left-arm seamer, and all-rounder Steve Lazars, but lost out to Brigade in the scramble for Johnny Thompson’s signature.
