South African all-rounder Shaheen Khan says he has unfinished business in the NCU after signing to rejoin Waringstown for the 2017 season.

The Cape Cobras and Western Province player confirmed his return to The Lawn after his registration was approved by Cricket Ireland yesterday.

The 29-year-old represented Waringstown in the 2014 season when the villagers appeared to be on their way to a vintage summer.

After appearing to sweep all before them in the Premier League, the season turned on a rain-interrupted Challenge Cup final defeat by Civil Service North.

Khan returned to South Africa shortly after that agonising last-over defeat, but Waringstown were on course to win the title before a dramatic turnaround saw Instonians snatch it from under their noses.

Now Khan, who has been plagued by back problems in recent years, wants to make up for the disappointments of 2014 when he arrives in Northern Ireland next month.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be returning back to the Lawn after not being able to return due to injury, but I was always hopeful that one day I’d get the chance again and it has finally come,” he said.

“I’m really excited to see some good people and friends and hopefully bring more success to an already successful club. Bring on the 2017 season.”

Waringstown vice-captain Gary Kidd is pleased that Khan is returning. He said: “I’m delighted to have Shaheen back at The Lawn, he’s a quality all-round cricketer who will add depth to all areas for us.”
