Ireland’S cricketers have become the latest athletes from the Irish Sports Council’s High Performance Programme to feature in a digital series entitled ‘The Journey’.

The focus on Irish cricket is the story behind the success of Ireland’s national team. Ireland are in a strong position to qualify for a third consecutive Cricket World Cup since their debut at the 2007 event in the Caribbean and currently sit on top of the qualifying table on the Road to Australia 2015.

“The Sports Council has a role to play in the promotion as well as the development of sport”, said a spokesperson for the Council. “We wanted to produce a professionally created body of work which athletes and sports can use to present themselves and their story to the world. The idea for the Journey is to highlight the daily commitment of high performance athletes. We see sport in the spotlight when it comes to the big occasion but this is about how people get to that point.”

“We trialled the concept last year with Katie Taylor, and are delighted to be following that up now with the story of Ireland’s cricketers who have experienced remarkable success in recent years and continue to do so now on their Journey to the 2015 World Cup in Australia where they currently top the qualification table.”

Ireland’s John Mooney is one of several Ireland players to feature in the series and provides the stirring voice-over for the feature piece in the series.
