Match of the day this weekend is at The Meadow where Downpatrick take on Lurgan in a match vital to both sides if they want to win the league, a fact not lost on home captain Paul Tate.
“It is quite simple really. If we win our remaining league fixtures we win the league and play in the Premier League next year,” said Tate.
“I am realistic enough though to know it will not pan out like that, anyone can beat each other on a given day; but Saturday is massive.
“I reckon if we win, Lurgan are out of the picture and then it is between ourselves and Carrickfergus who we have to play twice.
“It has been an interesting season and we have been performing well of late. It has been a struggle to get our full side out and this weekend we will miss Dale Mullan who has been performing well.
“Amit Patil has excelled since he moved to opening and I have dropped down and made a few in the Ulster Shield semi-final win.
“It has given opportunities to the younger guys and I have been impressed with how they have reacted.
“This weekend I am going to have to make some tough calls around team selection.
“A lot of sides have been saying they don’t want to go up but we will be putting our best foot forward in the next month and we will see what happens.”
