Instonians made the highest score in the history of the NCU’s Twenty20 Cup as they thrashed Ballymena by 128 runs at Shaw’s Bridge on Tuesday night.
Captain Neil Russell smashed 12 sixes and two fours as he made an unbeaten 117 from just 55 balls in a total of 219 for two.
Russell added 191 for the third wicket with James Shannon, who crashed 77 not out from 39 balls, hitting six fours and five sixes.
Ballymena could only manage 91 for seven in reply with Indian professional Yogesh Takawale making just 12 on his debut before he was caught behind off Nikolai Smith. The win secures Instonians’ semi-final place.
Result: Instonians 219-2 (N Russell 117 no, J Shannon 78 no, F Taylor 2-28); Ballymena 91-7 (M Glass 22 no, N Smith 2-7, R White 2-13). Instonians won by 128 runs.
The other tie between CIYMS and North Down was postponed. It will be replayed on Thursday night.
