Darren Clarke heads into the weekend two shots off the lead at the Nanshan China Masters.
Clarke is four under par after an immaculate second round of 68 on the Montgomerie Course at Nanshan International GC.
“I left a lot of putts short,” said the former Open Champion, who is tied fourth.
“I had 33 putts on Thursday and I think I had 33 on Friday. I’m hitting good putts, but I just can’t get the speed.
“I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing.
“Obviously I’m playing nicely and this is one of the times I need to be patient and wait for the putts to drop.”
Clarke is targeting a strong performance at the $1million OneAsia tournament.
“You always feel pressure if you’re in position on the back nine on Sunday, but I’ve got to get myself in that position first,” said Darren.
“There’s a long way to go before we get there, but I feel as may game is getting back to where I want it.”
On the European Tour, Simon Thornton is four shots behind leaders David Lynn and Paul Waring in Portugal.
Michael Hoey and Gareth Maybin both missed the cut.
