Devlin fails to get his Euro card

A NIGHTMARE finish ended Chris Devlin’s chances of claiming a European Tour card in Girona on Tuesday.

With eight holes of his fourth round remainin the Ballymena born golfer was inside the cut mark at Q-School but ran up an eight at the par four fourth (his 13th) trying to play out of a water hazard. Two further bogeys followed in quick succession and the 37-year-old’s race was run.

Waterville man David Higgins was the only Irish contender to make it through to the final two days of competition. Currently in a tie for 19th, Higgins is well placed to claim one of the 25 cards on offer come the end of play on Friday.

Simon Thornton, Peter O’Keefe, Niall Kearney and Gareth Shaw all missed the cut which fell at two over par. Other notable names to miss out include Rhys Davies, Nick Dougherty and Bradley Dredge.
