Tom Daley is adamant he will be able to guard against complacency when he begins the defence of his Commonwealth Games title in Glasgow next month.
The 20-year-old, who won double gold at Delhi 2010, will put his 10m platform title on the line as part of a 15-strong England diving squad.
Daley believes his recent commitments away from the sport including his ITV2 show ‘Tom Daley Goes Global’ will help him return fully focused.
Daley said: “I feel like I’m in the best shape I’ve been in for a long time and I’m feeling good going into the Commonwealths.
“If you’re sitting at home doing nothing it kind of fries your brain. You have to have other things in your life and that’s why I’m in a good place right now, but obviously for me diving is the number one priority.
“I feel like an old man of the sport now because I had my first senior international when I was 12. I’ve got lots of experience in lots of different competitions and another Commonwealth Games is another exciting prospect for me.”
But Daley conceded there is little chance of retaining his synchro title as he is still searching for a prospective partner with one month to go to the start of the event.
Daley added: “We are trying a lot of things but if we do decide to put a synchro team together it will be a last minute decision.
“I’ve been trying lots of people and lots of new things and it’s about finding out which is the best option and whether it is worth doing.”
Daley is joined in the team by Olympic finalists Chris Mears, Tonia Couch and Sarah Barrow.
It will be a third Games for the established pair of Barrow and Couch, while Mears will partner Jack Laugher in the 3m synchro.
Commenting on the squad, Team England Chef de Mission Jan Paterson said: “This is a superb squad of divers that I’m delighted to welcome to Team England. We have a great mix of experience and talent who I’m sure will do the nation proud this summer and I’d like to congratulate all of them on their selection.”
