Racing fans are chomping at the bit for the start of the Down Royal Summer season, which was launched this week at a celebration for horseracing devotees from across Northern Ireland.

The event, which was held at sleek Cathedral Quarter-based restaurant Hadskis’, marks the start of four months of fixtures at the County Down racecourse starting with the two-day Summer Festival of Racing on June 20th.

As well as packed race cards, the ever-popular Best Dressed Lady contest on the Saturday will have fashionistas vying to land the title and the 5-star prize that comes with it.

The winner of this year’s competition, in association with the Fitzwilliam Hotel, will jet off to Istanbul for four nights of pampering including a personal tour of the city and a luxurious cruise on the Bosphorus.

It’s the start of a busy season for Down Royal, which has had £5 million invested in transforming the site with the provision of a new, state-of-the-art grandstand, new high end hospitality suites and a landscaping overhaul that befits its position as one of Northern Ireland’s leading race day attractions.

Mike Todd, General Manager at Down Royal, says this summer looks set to be one of the most successful on record for the racecourse.

“With five events being held across the summer months, we look forward to welcoming horseracing fans from across Northern Ireland to enjoy the season in our start-of-the-art facilities with the focus on what our customers want, and delivering the best of hospitality and horseracing.

“Our continued commitment to ensuring an unbeatable experience both on and off the track is reflected in the modernisation programme undertaken in recent years, and the fact that many of our guests come back year after year to enjoy a great day out.
