Elaine Rice is confident she will be able to spend most of this season playing second team netball in spite of Belfast Ladies losing a couple of bright prospects.
The brain drain has hit the Premier League champions with Northern Ireland Under 21 internationals Mary Carson and Ciara Crosbie off to university across the water.
Although new national coach Kate Carpenter has promised to track the talented teenagers, Belfast Ladies must plan to be without the pair on a regular basis in the new campaign.
“I’m intending to play regularly for our Seconds as, in spite of effectively losing Mary and Ciara, we’re still able to field a very competitive mix of youth and experience,” she says.
“With Maire Toner on holidays, Northern Ireland Under 17 international Rachel Moore came in for her debut in the 81-26 victory over Laganside last Friday night.”
On Friday night Belfast Ladies should have a straightforward win over a Donaghadee side whose opening game against Larkfield last week was called off.
