EURO 2012: Davis has no fear
MIDFIELDER Steven Davis believes Northern Ireland should have "nothing to fear" when they kick-off their European 2012 qualifying campaign tomorrow night.
Nigel Worthington's side are preparing for an opening clash with familiar rivals Slovenia in Maribor.
Slovenia finished ahead of Northern Ireland in the last World Cup qualifiers en route to reaching the Finals in South Africa.
During that series Northern Ireland suffered a 2-0 defeat in Maribor before exacting revenge in a 1-0 win at Windsor Park, with Warren Feeney scoring the winner.
Statistics stand against Northern Ireland ahead of tomorrow's renewal – they are now without a win in 10 games and without a goal in seven.
Despite the depressing form, Davis (right) remains upbeat on their chances of qualifying for a first major finals in 26 years.
"Having played Slovenia in the last World Cup campaign, we know we can compete with them. It was good to see them qualify for the World Cup finals," he said.
"It is proof that a smaller nation can reach finals.
"It would be great to emulate that.
"I don't believe we have anything to fear."
