FOOTBALL: Allen double does the job for Blues
DAVID Jeffrey admitted it was case of "job done" as Linfield eased into the semi-finals of the Paddy Power County Antrim Shield last night.
Curtis Allen bagged a brace as the Blues saw off Cliftonville at Windsor Park.
Jeffrey admitted his side laboured through the opening half before cementing their win in the second period.
"I wasn't pleased with the first half, we were second best to everything and were fortunate to come in with a 1-0 lead," he said.
"Cliftonville were the better side and they forced a couple of great saves from Alan Blayney.
"I reminded the players who they were playing for and thankfully they responded after the break."
Jeffrey made a number of personnel changes for last night's clash, with
defender David Armstrong coming in for his debut.
There was also the second half appearance of young Swifts striker David
McCrory.
It afforded the Blues boss the chance to reshuffle his pack ahead of Saturday's Carling Premiership showdown with the Reds.
"It is all about maximising your squad, and tonight we did that," Jeffrey added.
"But at half-time I am sure the players who were sitting in the stands were thinking 'there's not much competition here'.
"Well, in the second half we put in a better display and it was a positive exercise.
"I don't think tonight will have any bearing on Saturday's league game. Cliftonville will have some of their big guns back, so we know how tough it will be."
