FOOTBALL: Linfield secure win over Bannsiders
DAVID Jeffrey described Linfield's battling 1-0 victory over Coleraine as a "great win" for the Blues.
Paul Munster's second goal of the season saw the champions record back-to-back triumphs in the Carling Premiership.
Munster pounced to score the winner in the 33rd minute, latching onto a flick-on from Peter Thompson before unleashing a right-foot shot past Davy O'Hare.
Coleraine had their chances to earn a share of the spoils, notably from Paul Brown and Gareth Harkin.
But David Jeffrey's side held on to claim their win on Friday night.
"It was a great win," the Linfield boss declared.
"We knew Coleraine would throw everything at us, despite their position in the league.
"But my players showed a great desire and determination to get the win.
"I think it says it all when you consider we got a standing ovation for a 1-0 win. That doesn't happen that often.
"But that's six points from our last two games so we have to be happy."
Coleraine boss David Platt lamented his side's poor finishing on the night.
"We are disappointed not to have come away with anything," he said.
"We had a couple of great chances but we didn't take them.
"But I am confident we will get out of this rut soon. I have no doubts about it."
Platt also admitted that the Bannsiders were on the verge of signing Institute defender David Ogilby.
Platt added: "I am hoping to speak to David now and finalise a deal.
"We tried to get him a year and a half ago but he decided to stay at Stute.
"He will provide competition for places and will be a great acquisition."
Elsewhere in the Carling Premiership, Cliftonville defeated Crusaders 3-1 at Seaview.
Portadown beat Dungannon and Ballymena Utd secured a 2-0 victory at Glenavon.
