Andrew Mitchell strike earns crucial victory for Dungannon Swifts

The visitors dominated the chances at Stangmore Park.

But they found home goalkeeper Andy Coleman in unbeatable form. He made save after save to keep Town out.

Seeking a fifth straight win, Warrenpoint had the ball in the net after five minutes through Sean Donnelly, but the midfielder was offside at the time.

The visitors went close in the 18th minute. Steven Murray intercepted a poor kick from the goalkeeper, cut inside but saw his shot headed off the line. The deadlock was broken in the 33rd minute.

A horrible mistake from Jordan Dane gifted the ball straight to Mitchell, who aimed a low left-foot strike beyond the goalkeeper.

Warrenpoint came within inches of a half-time equaliser when Donnelly’s drive from distance struck the woodwork.

Andy Coleman reacted well to deny Martin Murray on the follow-up.

The home goalkeeper was called back into action 12 minutes into the second half, blocking at close range from Donnelly.

Town boss Barry Gray, seeking some attacking impetus, responded with a double change. On came John McGuigan and Jonathan McMurray.

The latter almost levelled when the ball spun up off Mark Clarke, but his effort was well saved.

Coleman also denied Steven Murray, who had been played in by Martin Murray.

McMurray saw a free-kick saved and Dermot McVeigh’s header was blocked just short of the line as the visitors pushed for an equaliser.

However, Dungannon held on for a vital victory.
